Coptic Orthodox Church in South America

Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria activities in South America started mainly in the 1990s, however the immigration of the Copts to South America started in the 1960s.

On Sunday 12 February 2006 His Holiness Pope Shenouda III consecrated Saint Mark Coptic Orthodox church in Sao Paolo, Brazil. [1]

On the following day Monday 13 Februay 2006 His Holiness the Pope consecrated Saint Mary and Saint Mark Coptic Orthodox church in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. [2]

There are many Coptic Orthodox churches and congregations in South America, currently the church has two Bishops both ordinated in 2006[3] serving in South America

1. His Grace Aghathon, Bishop the Holy Diocese of Sao Paolo and All Brazil, who is mainly serving Portuguese-speaking territories.

2. His Grace Youssef (Joseph), Bishop of the Holy Diocese of Santa Cruz and All Bolivia.
