Copperton, Utah

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Copperton is a township located in Salt Lake County, Utah. Located southwest of West Jordan and about 17 miles from Salt Lake City, Copperton lies at the mouth of Bingham Canyon and was established in 1926 by the Utah Copper Company as a residential area for its employees. Today it is home to approximately 800 residents and is the only mining town remaining for the Kennecott Copper Mine after Lark was torn down in 1980. Currently, however, only about half of the residents work at the mine.
