Coppa Italia Dilettanti

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Coppa Italia Dilettanti (Italian for Amateur Italian Cup) is a straight knock-out based competition involving teams from Eccellenza and Promozione in Italian football. All games, except the final, are on a home/away basis. The winner of the tournament is also awarded the promotion to Serie D.

Originally the competition was opened also to teams from Serie D. These teams and Eccellenza/Promozione teams didn't compete between them though, there were two sub-competitions, the winners of which clashed in a final match to determinate who would be awarded the cup. Since the 1999/00 season Serie D staged their own competition, the Coppa Italia Serie D, thus leaving only Eccellenza and Promozione teams to compete for the Coppa Italia Dilettanti.
