Copenhagen International Documentary Festival

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Copenhagen International Documentary Festival, or CPH:DOX, is Denmark’s first annual international documentary film festival screening appr. 150 productions every year. Over the last three years CPH:DOX has established itself as this country’s most important venue for documentary film. With admissions reaching over 20,000 at the 2005 edition CPH:DOX will this year be celebrating its position as the largest documentary film festival in Scandinavia. The successful development of CPH:DOX means that the festival is by now the second largest film festival in Denmark and third largest documentary film festival in Europe – judged from the number of admissions.

The number of admissions, however, is not the only criterion of success for CPH:DOX. The widespread positive responses from audiences, press and professionals are a decisive motivating and invaluable factor to the festival.

In addition to the festival screenings the festival each year hosts a wide range of activities which help to magnify the film experience. Seminars, lectures, debates, Q&A with the directors, happenings, music and clubbing events all make CPH:DOX much more than just a film festival.

This year’s CPH:DOX presents ten days of the best documentary films in the world. The programme presents a wide range of films from thought-provoking political films over groovy music films to radical art films. The programme consists of three international competitions – The CPH:DOX Award, The New Vision Award, and The Amnesty Award – and as something new this year’s festival will present a new award, The Sound & Vision Award, which is awarded to the best music documentary.

Festival Secretariat: Tine Fischer, Synnøve Kjærland, Jacob Krogh.
