Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction is the fifth installment in the Splinter Cell series of video games. Conviction will be developed by Ubisoft Montreal (developers of Splinter Cell, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and the 6th generation versions of Splinter Cell: Double Agent) and published by Ubisoft. While not much is known about the game in its current state, 1UP.com confirmed the games exclusivity to the Xbox 360 and Games for Windows platforms. [1]

Note: the name "Conviction" was established from the September 21 leak (see "Ubisoft leak" below). Although Ubisoft has acknowledged that a fifth Splinter Cell is in the works, the name "Conviction" was not used by Ubisoft in any official statement. There is, thus, a definite probability that "Splinter Cell: Conviction" is only a working title.

[edit] Gameplay

Various game magazines, including Official Xbox Magazine, are already claiming that Conviction will re-invent player's perception of next-gen gameplay, graphical detail, and innovation. Other than that brief statement, no other gameplay details have been announced.

Though no solid evidence supports it, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction is expected to receive the "M" rating (meaning the age of 17+), as the previous two games had the same rating.

[edit] Story

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Nothing concrete has been revealed regarding the story premise of Splinter Cell: Conviction. However, given the "To Be Continued" ending of the previous game Splinter Cell: Double Agent, it will likely deal with Sam Fisher on the run from the FBI, who does not know of his NOC status. This game will also determine which choices Sam made in the previous game are canonical, though it doesn't state whether the current-gen or Next-gen versions are canonical (due to the story differences between the two versions of the game). Other details pertaining to Conviction's story may have been revealed in the PlayStation Portable game, Splinter Cell: Essentials, which took place after Double Agent. However, it is unknown whether Lambert will assist Sam in this latest Splinter Cell production, due to the choice of being able to shoot Lambert in Double Agent. It has, however, been revealed that Assistant Director Williams may be the villain for this next installment, as opposed to his previous position as an alleged ally of Fisher's. Sam will also utilise a whole new selection of gadgets from the profits he made, during the previous game's antagonists, the JBA.
