[edit] Xu Kuanghua

Hi Charlie--I don't see this guy who was recently discussed on your bulletin board listed, but here's a website about him in case you want to add him. http://72.14.207.104/search?q=cache:70iTJTANbX4J:www.chinahotelsreservation.com/travel_tourism_more.asp%3Fnews_id%3D4944+%22xu+kuanghua%22&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=2 By the way, I love this bulletin board! I'd never looked in before a few days ago. It is great. Badagnani 22:50, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

  • I'll add him in when I've got time. Currently at work at the mo. Charlie Huang --212.115.41.39 15:16, 28 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Master" labeling

I'm reluctant to use this term now. We had a discussion in my music forum and people think it is very dodgy term to use. A lot of people proclaim themselves as 'master' but aren't really comparable to the best. And if one labels someone of a younger generation like that, then we'll all have to consider everyone in that generation who performs just as well as that person, 'master'; and what of the veteran professional players who have more experience than these younger players? Therefore, I propose a ban on the term "master" unless it is appropriate or acceptable in the circumstances. --Charlie Huang 【正矗昊】 18:46, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

  • If the player is too modest and thinks "master" is too high a title, I often find other titles for them. Otherwise, I only call "master" players for someone who shows signs of dedication - a combination of dedication, and virtuosity - I think the title Master should best be an honorific given by others ... However, if the person wants to be Master very badly - or for whatever reason... I wouldnt "ban" the use of it. Because, there are "master" and "master" it only means that the person has a true yearning to achieve a respectable rank. What harm could there be?  :) sgNChow
It is when the older generation of qin performers think the younger generation is ranked equal to them. Some players may excel in one aspect but not in others and to put them all in one group, it is tricky when face is involved. Players like Guan Pinghu, Wu Jinglüe, Zha Fuxi can be considered 'masters', but they focus on different things. If you want to call people 'masters', then they must be officially recognised as the best in the current generation, i.e. Li Xiangting and Gong Yi. Other than these two, I don't think anyone living could be considered 'master' a proper. For the sake of avoiding this labeling issue, it's best to do away with the title altogether. --Charlie Huang 【正矗昊】 13:12, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

The "best"... hmmm, I could think of one who just passed away, Mei RiQiang - he was definitely a master with special signature playing thats very fine and sensitive - maybe I like to see professional concert players as "master". Others well, each person has their favorite players. --Anon

[edit] Correction/addition

I think Yip "Mingwei" should be changed to Yip "Mingmei." She's visited my university and the name she uses is "Mingmei." Also, can Bell Yung (professor at University of Pittsburgh) be added? Thanks, Badagnani 03:10, 22 April 2006 (UTC)

  • The Cantonese and Mandarin romanisations can confuse me, especially when they are very similar... No reason not to add Bell Yung. Was going to add him but completely forgot. --Charlie Huang 【正矗昊】 15:33, 4 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed move

I'd like to move this page to "List of contemporary guqin players", since it's a list. I will of course fix all double redirects. Any objections? --Ideogram 22:25, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

No objection on this, but you should ask the person who created the article. Badagnani 22:47, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Well, go on then. --Charlie Huang 【正矗昊】 10:09, 21 February 2007 (UTC)
