Conon’s father was hereditary Advocatus (avoué in French or Vogt in German) of the Abbey of St Vaast. The original role of an Advocatus was to perform duties barred to monks, because they risked bloodshed. Typically, this would be to judge capital crimes on abbey lands and to lead the abbey tenants into war. In practice, he and his dependants would often be lay protectors of the abbey and its estate. 86.150.54.166 17:56, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

The town in modern Turkey where Conon probably died is called Edirne. 86.150.54.166 17:57, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for noting this misspelling. Andrew Dalby 18:17, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
