Talk:Confinity

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The amazing things are: 1. at the beginning, how did the founders of the Confinity convince the investors like Nokia to fund them to develop the digit wallet--PayPal system? How can they predict that this will profit and people will trust this PayPal system?

2. Now, from June 2006, we can see that Confinity/PayPal is really successful, then, can one (whose income is just from his normal job) set up a similar online payment website and compete with PayPal? Will PayPal/Ebay become a monolog company as the only online auction platform in the whole world? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Korenzhang2244 (talkcontribs) 08:30, 22 June 2006 (UTC).

[edit] Deletion

Either badly-written or horrendously outdated. Paypal says that Paypal aquired Confinity in 2000, but thats all we got. Worth keeping? Anand 17:50, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Actually it was X.com that bought out Confinity in 2000 and acquired Paypal. As to the question of deletion, I am not sure how much more we can add to an article about a company that only existed for 2 years. Unless Korenzhang2244 can provide something more substantial about this company, I don't think its existence can be sustained. Road Wizard 21:55, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

Although it only existed for no more than 2 years, but it is still valuable to be in the encyclopedia as a knowledge and it is useful for people studying this field.koren 15:51, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

Yes, it is worthwile mentioning Confinity, but is it worthwile having its own page? If we can expand the article beyond its current 4 sentences, it might be worth keeping a separate page about it. However, the usual practice for dealing with short articles with no prospect of expansion is to merge them with a larger, related article. In this case the merge would be with the Paypal article. If you think there is enough additional information about this company to warrant its own page, then please let me know. Thaks. Road Wizard 17:30, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] I thought Confinity set up Paypal, then how come paypal bought confinity?

I imagine its unlikely that a subsidiary company can flourish enough to subsume its parent company but not impossible. Anyone know details?
As I said above, Paypal didn't buy Confinity. X.Com bought Confinity and thereby acquired Paypal at the same time. Check the Paypal article for details. Road Wizard 12:32, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
