Convoy, County Donegal

Convoy is a small village in Donegal, Ireland. It lies on the road from Stranolor to Raphoe and is part of the diocese of Raphoe.
Convoy was once famous for its woollen mill located on the banks of the River Deel, but this closed in the early 1980s with the loss of many local jobs. The woollen mills are now host to a thriving business area that has been promoted and assisted by the state development body FAS.
Convoy has a growing population of over one thousand. Many are attracted by the country lifestyle and the proximity to Letterkenny which is only 20 minutes drive away. There is a mixed denomination of the population in Convoy which consists of both Roman Catholic and Protestant primary schools and churches. There are no secondary schools in Convoy and local children tend to travel to Raphoe or Stranorlor for second level education usally in bare feet.
Convoy has a local amateur football (soccer) team, Convoy Arsenal. Jonathan Minnock is a former player who has gone on to play for Finn Harps. A multi cultural football team which reflects the community Convoy now has two polish players playing for them: Jerzy O'Herlihy and Oleg McClafferty.
Convoy once suffered from severe rat infestation during the Winter of 2006, which came from raphoe, however this has no been eradicated.
