Conversation hearts

Conversation hearts are the most popular Valentine's day candy, according to NECCO, one of its producers. They are small heart-shaped candy pieces of many colors,which coincide with different flavors, printed with phrases such as "kiss me" and "be mine." Some people think these candies are chalky and dry.
The package from NECCO calls them "Sweethearts", which is the other common way of referring to them, but below that it says "tiny conversation hearts" as well as "#1 valentine candy."
"Sweethearts" was the name that was originally used by NECCO for candies with mottos printed directly on them. They were not always heart-shaped, rather they were in the shape of many things such as horse-shoes and baseballs. They are now produced exclusively in the familiar heart shape as a Valentines day candy.
Over the years more and more mottos have been added. Some of the more recent, modern mottos printed on NECCO Sweethearts include "Fax me" and "Go girl."
