Convent, Louisiana

The town of Convent is located in St. James Parish, in the US state of Louisiana. Since 1869 it has been the parish seat. As of 2000 the population is 2,002.
The town took damage during Hurricane Katrina, disrupting parish government activities for several months.

Located on the east bank of the Mississippi River, the town is only 16 feet (5 meters) below sea level.
