Control panel (computer)

Many computer user interfaces utilize a control panel metaphor to allow the user control of software and hardware features.

Although debatable, the metaphor's popularity could be attributed not the the Apple Lisa, but to the Apple Macintosh (1984) which made use of a fundamental graphic representation of a control panel imitating the operation of, slider controls, buttons and other concepts.
