Contra Franja (band)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Contra Franja are a Warrington based Experimental Pop-Punk band consisting of Count Ninrate as singer and guitarist, Astro Cowboy as guitarist, Sneanky Pete as drummer, and Hunny Bunny as bassist. They formed in 2006 for a school "Battle Of The Bands" as to which they won and went on to record their first song, Super Ginger.
[edit] History
Count Ninrate (Danny McSorley) formed this band with a drummer friend (who went by the name of Flash Bandicoot) at first as a two-piece band and first decided on the name "The Squeege", but after certain events with Flash and a girl who they say had "a long fringe and a mono-brow" they changed the name to Contra Franja, literally meaning Anti Fringe in Spanish. They then recruited Astro Cowboy (Mike Tingle) to play guitar when they heard of their school's Battle Of The Bands coming up and Hunny Bunny (Ste Bailey) on bass. They then went on to win this competition against bands who had been together for years and made their first recording of a song written by Count Ninrate about being a proud ginger and was named "Super Ginger".
Later, after disagreements in the bands Flash Bandicoot left the band and the role of drummer was offered to Sneanky Pete (Pete Melia) who jumped at the chance and the band line-up is still the same to this day.
Contra Franja have been writing their own material an have an album due for release sometime this year which brings us to the next section:

[edit] Genre
Even though most people of the public class Contra Franja as a pop-punk band, the "experimental" part is because they do not stick to the guidelines. This is because Master Sam, Super Ginger, The Legendary Life Of Count Ninrate and The Guar Challenge are obvious pop-punk songs, but Argh, A Jellyfish! is more of comedy rock comparable to such bands as Tenacious D, Fag Ash is Ska Punk, Anthëm is more heavy punk, and Destined Child is more along the lines of power metal. A reporter also once said that their version of Stand By Me is grunge, giving them yet another genre.
