Saudi Arabia has no legislature. In its place, there is a Consultative Council known as Majlis as-Shura or Shura Council. It is based in the Al-Yamamh Palace, Riyadh.

The Shura Council was created in 1992 as a 60-seat assembly by the Basic Law issued by the Saudi king Fahd. Being expanded in 1997 and 2001, the council achieved a place in the International Parliamentary Union by the end of 2003. Currently, its 150 members are appointed by the king. None of them are women.
