Constellation 3D

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Constellation 3D (C3D or CDDD)[1] was the worldwide leader in the development of high capacity Fluorescent Multilayer Disc and Card (FMD/C) technology.[2][3][4] Constellation 3D held or made application for over 120 worldwide patents in the field of optical data storage, and was supported by 65 scientists.

Constellation 3D was shut down due to a scandal (the scandal essentially involved the prototype "demonstrated" at COMDEX 2000 being a hoax — the content was actually playing on a hard drive — the device was faked) and the company consequently ran out of money, a new company called D Data Inc.[5] was formed which acquired the entire patent portfolio of Constellation 3D in 2003. The company is determined to bring multilayer optical disc technology to the market, and so has introduced the technology again under the new name of Digital Multilayer Disk (DMD).

Constellation 3D declared bankruptcy, but company stock continues to trade on the Pink Sheets under the symbol CDDDQ.PK
