[edit] Family
She was a daughter of Alfonso II of Aragon and Sancha of Castile.
Her maternal grandparents were Alfonso VII of León and Richeza of Poland.
[edit] Queen of Hungary
In 1198, Constance married Emeric of Hungary. They only had one son:
Ladislaus was crowned co-ruler of his father in 1204. Emeric wanted to secure his succession and had his brother, Andrew promise to protect the child and help him govern the Kingdom of Hungary until reaching adulthood.
Emeric was dead before the end of the year. Ladislaus succeeded him as King while Andrew became his Regent. Andrew soon took over all regal authority while Ladislaus and Constance were little more than his prisoners. Constance managed to escape to Vienna with Ladislaus.
The two found refuge in the court of Leopold VI, Duke of Austria but Ladislaus would soon die. The Regent became King Andrew II of Hungary while Constance remained in exile.
[edit] Holy Roman Empress
Constance remained a widow for five years. In 1210, she married her second husband Frederick of Sicily. They only had one son:
On 9 December 1212, Frederick was crowned King of Germany in opposition to Otto IV, Holy Roman Emperor. At first Frederick controlled Southern Germany but Otto IV was effectively deposed on 5 July 1215. At this time Constance was the only German Queen.
Pope Honorius III crowned Frederick Holy Roman Emperor on 22 November 1220. Constance became his Empress while their son Henry became the new King of Germany. She died less than two years later.
