Congenital Asplenia is a condition in which a newborn baby is born without a spleen. This condition is due to genetic disorders (or exposure to environmental factors during gestation) and increases the risk of infection, especially increased risk of bacterial sepsis and meningitis, which can, ultimately, lead to the death of the baby.
