Concerto for Violin and Strings (Mendelssohn)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847) composed his Concerto for violin and string orchestra at the age of thirteen. It has three movements.

  1. Allegro
  2. Andante
  3. Allegro

The work has a duration of around 22 minutes.

The D minor concerto is somewhat overshadowed by the composer's more popular E minor concerto. Much of recognition of the D minor concerto is due to the efforts of violinist Yehudi Menuhin, who arranged for its publication in 1951.
