[edit] Gaelic Football
Martin won a Leinster Senior Football Championship medal with Dublin in 1941 playing at Midfield. He partnered Joe Fitzgerald of Geraldines in Midfield in the 1941 final against Carlow on November 9. It was revealed that Con Martin played soccer for Drumcondra at the time, and due to a Gaelic Athletic Association ban on so called 'foreign sports', he did not receive his Leinster final medal when the Dublin county board were distributing the medals to the winning players. Con did not feature in the 1942 repeat of the Leinster final also with Carlow as he had already committed himself to soccer following the controversy. He was eventually awarded the medal forty years later.[1]
