Con (TV series)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Con is a television series on Comedy Central in which con artist Skyler Stone reveals the secrets of his profession by performing confidence tricks, scams, and hoaxes of various degrees of complexity on camera. These can range from simply claiming that an order for food was botched, to claiming to be a certain profession, which requires training (gotten through cons). In one episode, he showed the viewer how he gets free sodas at fast food restaurants. Stone retains paper cups from various fast food restaurants and then walks into the lobby of the nearest fast food establishment and uses their soda fountain. Most of his cons revolve around him claiming that he is filming a television show or movie of some sort, and that the product or service he wishes to acquire will be advertised in the film or show. Ironically, the products do wind up getting free advertisement — but on Con, not where they were told.

Stone often uses fake names when doing his cons. Skyler's most used alias, Mike Saint Aubin, is, variously, a professional photographer, a famous Canadian pornographer, accountant to Brad Pitt, and a rapper who was in a coma for a very long time. Skyler often plans and executes his cons with the help of his friends.

For example Skyler Stone conned a beauty salon into giving him a makeover, rented an entire ski lodge free, tricked a studio into viewing a fake film, along with avoiding police tickets and obtaining free food from numerous restaruants

As a result of numerous lawsuits the show was cancelled after only six episodes (Loveline, May 2006). However, the show has achieved cult status as many fansites, fake Myspace profiles of Skyler, and YouTube postings of all the episodes have surfaced on the web. Comedy Central was pleased with the ratings, but said in a press release that "the show was getting too far over the edge and brought us legal issues we were not equipped to handle. We love Skyler and wish him the best."

Skyler Stone is currently filming SKYLER'S REVOLUTION for the Fox Broadcasting Channel and Warner Brothers TV. In it, he plays himself as he finds people who hate their lives and jobs, and he turns their situations upside down. It is produced by Stone, McG (Charlie's Angels 1 & 2 and We Are Marshall) and Trip Taylor (Jackass, Wild Boyz).

Skyler has since become one of the most sought after actor/comedian/writers in Hollywood, as he has gone on to work with Christopher Guest, the Farrelly Brothers, Dane Cook, Michael Bay, Lewis Black and Jay Mohr.

Skyler was on Craig Ferguson on January 3rd, 2007. He did a stand-up routine that received a standing ovation. He talked about the DMV, homeless people in LA, the different celebs he gets mistaken for, and did an amazing Vince Vaughn impression. He even brought out the actor that played Mr. Belding on Saved By The Bell (Dennis Haskins) for a bit. Many people in Hollywood were impressed, for the idea of bringing out a random celebrity in your routine had not really been done before.

Skyler was on Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen on April 3rd, 2007. He was on the show with Jimmie Walker and Flip Schultz. He did impressions of Michael Douglas and Owen Wilson. He also did a bit on how unhappy Brad Pitt must be after he probably signed up for wild sex and viles of blood with Angelina Jolie, but got stuck with diapers and Chucky Cheese. He did about slang words and how black people must make them up to mess with white people as well.

Skyler stars in a hugely popular internet sketch group called VELCRO with girlfriend Alanna Ubach and best friend Zach Johnson. It is executive produced by Jay Mohr (who has been a mentor to Skyler). Their shorts skewer pop culture and can be seen at www.velcrotroupe.com

He was flown to New York by Lorne Michaels to test for a series regular position on Saturday Night Live. He lost the role to Andy Samberg.
