Concept

Sometimes, an otherwise good contributor loses his or her cool and judgment related to a single article or topic. In such a case, it may be best for the encyclopedia if said person ceases editing said topic for a while. When imposed by the community of administrators, such remedies are known as community sanctions, as opposed to a community ban where the community simply decides the encyclopedia is better off without the user entirely. Sanctions generally have a time limit, and violating a sanction generally results in a block of some sort.

There is no strict formal process regarding community sanction. Community sanctions are proposed and discussed on the admin noticeboard, and logged here for convenience since said noticeboard has a rather large mailflow. A community sanction should probably not be imposed by just a single admin, and can be appealed to the admin noticeboard, or if necessary, to the ArbCom. This page is just a log, and is not meant for discussion of any sort.

Current sanctions

Gene Nygaard is banned from non consensual article moves until further notice

Gene Nygaard (talk contribs) is banned from any page moves unless there clearly is an existing consensus (as decided/evaluated at the whim of the blocking admin, subject to review) in place either on the corresponding talk page of the aticle, or clearly referenced in the edit summary with a clickable link, and specifically encouraged to carry out useful redirects and category alphabetisation. The ban is to be enforced by short blocks at admin discretion, blocks to increase in duration if behaviour does not change, with an ultimate permanent ban from the community as last resort. ++Lar: t/c 19:05, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Completed sanctions

Heqwm is on 30 day community probation relating to Boy Scouts of America related articles

As per a discussion on AN:I, Heqwm (talk contribs) is now under Community probation with regard to all Boy Scouts of America-related articles. For the next month, he is forbidden to edit any of these pages as well as the associated talk pages. Should he violate this probation, he should be blocked from editing all together for an appropriate amount of time. Should his mediation case find a different remedy upon its conclusion, discusssion may take place on whether it should supercede this decision. --InShaneee 14:47, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
