"Completely Infuriated! Kuro vs. Luffy, Final Battle!", known as "The Cat's Ninth Life" in the US version, is the 17th episode of the anime series One Piece.
[edit] Synopsis
Captain Kuro continues running around with Shakushi, and he takes a swing at Luffy which Luffy narrowly avoids. Luffy says Shakushi has far too many unnecessary movements, and he wraps himself around Kuro, rendering him defenseless. In the woods, as Jango is about to kill Kaya the Usopp Pirates ram him in the behind with a shovel, causing Jango great pain and to turn on them. Zoro then comes running and slashes through a branch, allowing Usopp to use True Shot Fire Star, striking Jango right in the face, knocking him out with just one hit. At the coast, Luffy headbutts Kuro, and the Kuroneko Pirates realize they may live if Luffy wins. Luffy yells at them to stop cheering for him, and so he stretches his neck way out. Using a mighty Gomu Gomu no Bell, he headbutts Kuro hard, unwrapping himself and sending Kuro flying back. Kuro collapses to the ground, finally defeated. Luffy then declares he will become Pirate King, and throws Kuro's unconscious body at the Kuroneko Pirates, who flee to their ship. Nami runs up to Luffy, and Luffy collapses onto her, exhausted. When Luffy says he didn't like Kuro and his crew, Nami points out that most pirates are like Kuro - low.
In the woods, Usopp makes Kaya and the Usopp Pirates promise that they won't tell the villagers what happened, and they agree. In the village, the villagers wonder why Usopp has come running by telling lies yet. Zoro and Usopp arrive at the slope, and Usopp thanks them for what they did. Later, he talks with the Usopp Pirates in a field in the village. He reminisces with them on how they first met, and how they instantly became friends and formed a crew. Usopp then tells them that he has decided to become a real pirate, and that he will be setting sail soon. With tears in his eyes, he declares that on that day, officially, the Usopp Pirates are disbanded.
Meanwhile, Luffy, Nami, and Zoro are having a well-deserved meal in the village restaurant when Kaya steps inside, in a much better condition than before because her depression is gone. She brings the Straw Hats down to the coast to show them their new ship she has given to them. Merry is there and explains how it works, declaring its name as the Going Merry. Meanwhile, at Usopp's house, Usopp is ready to go, and he puts on his large backpack, but when he tries to leave the house he gets stuck because the pack is too big. He ends up rolling down the slope and lands in front of Kaya and Merry to see the new ship, and the Straw Hats are on board, ready to leave. Usopp says they may meet again and prepares for his own boat, but Zoro tells him to get on and Luffy says that Usopp's they're new crewmate. Usopp is ecstatic and jumps on board, and so the Straw Hats sail off together, Kaya watching gladly. As Kaya sits by a tree with Merry beside her, Merry talks about Usopp's early days, when his mother died after Yasopp left to become a pirate. Usopp had yelled that pirates were coming, and ran into his house to see his mother on her death bed. Usopp had always run through the village, telling everyone that pirates were coming, and Merry says that there was hope in his lies. The Usopp Pirates then pick up where Usopp left off, running into the village and yelling that pirates are coming. As Kaya looks up into the sky, she tells Merry that she wants to become a doctor, and Merry says it is a wonderful goal.
- The US episode title refers to a cat having nine lives. Kuro, being a cat-based pirate, finnally goes down. Therefore, he "loses" his "ninth life".
