[edit] Next Generation Opteron Series
The Next Generation Opteron series came out in late 2006, in single, dual and 8 socket varieties ranging from 1.8 to 2.8ghz. Other than the number of sockets supported and the processing speeds, the models are very similar. Until the quad core next generation Opteron arrives, all currently available processors are dual core. The single socket processors use Socket AM2 while the dual and eight socket models use the 1207 pin Socket F counterpart. See http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_8796_14266,00.html
