[edit] History
The original Community Market opened in 1927, when Louis Rosenberg started his first grocery and general merchandise store in North Bessemer, a suburb of Pittsburgh that is now considered Penn Hills. He had worked with his brothers in the grocery business while a young man and this experience influenced him in making grocery store merchandising a lifetime work.
[edit] Today
Today the supermarkets are now operated by second and third generation members of the Rosenberg family. Although much has changed since the first store opened nearly 75 years ago, the same business philosophy remains: Offer shoppers the availability of a large selection of goods with the atmosphere of a friendly neighborhood market. The small chain is known for its low-priced weekly specials. Those values have expanded in recent years to include online specials.
