Communist Party of Revolutionary Marxists

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Communist Party of Revolutionary Marxists, is a political party in the northern areas of the Indian state of West Bengal. CPRM was formed in 1996 by Communist Party of India (Marxist)-dissidents (a major party of the local CPI(M) leadership in Darjeeling), who were dissatisfied with the peace treaty with the Gorkha National Liberation Front.

CPRM struggles for a separate Gorkhaland state to be formed within India. It contested the Darjeeling Gorkha Autonomous Hills Council in 1999, but won no seat. Before 1999 one CPRM member was sitting in DGAHC. Ahead of the 1999 DGHC elections CPRM had participated in a United Front comprising of CPRM, Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League, Indian National Congress, Bharatiya Gorkha Janashakti, Communist Party of India, All India Trinamool Congress, Bharatiya Nepali Bir Gorkha and Sikkim Rashtriya Mukti Morcha. In this front, only ABGL won any seats.

Since the failure of the United Front, CRPM has formed the People's Democratic Front, as a united opposition to GNLF in the Darjeeling Hills, together with Akhil Bharatiya Gorkha League, Indian National Congress, Gorkha National Liberation Front (C.K. Pradhan) and Bharatiya Janata Party.

The general secretary of CPRM is R.B. Rai.

The youth organization of CPRM is called Democratic Revolutionary Youth Federation.
