"Come Back to Me" was the fifth single released from Janet Jackson's critically and commercially successful album Rhythm Nation 1814.
[edit] Song information
"Come Back to Me" focused on Janet who wants her former lover as she says, "come back to me." The song was written by Jackson, James Harris, and Terry Lewis and produced by Harris and Lewis. The single contains a b-side called "Skin Game, Pt. 1." The b-side was a song about dance, fun, and sex.
The song reached number two on the U.S. Hot 100, becoming another top five from Rhythm Nation 1814. The song was lackluster internationally. It failed to reach the top ten in Canada, peaked at twenty in the UK, and was a disappointment in Australia. "Come Back To Me" became Jackson's only #1 hit on the US Adult Contemporary chart to date.
The video was directed by Dominic Sena, who directed a hand full of Jackson's videos. The video takes place in Paris, where Jackson deals with the former lover leaving her. She reminisces about she and love's past moments. She looks up at her apartment window and realizes everything is going to be fine with her lover. The male lead in the video was Rene Elizondo, who she would marry a year later.
