Combat dance

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Combat dance is a fighting dancecraft invented in Canada.

Influenced by Capoeira but infused with modern improvisational techniques and elements of theatre and portable technology. A diverse array of musical styles can influence and accompany a combat dance set, with participants and their supporters often engaging in live performances against one another, similar in thematics to the modern battle rap. Unlike other fighting arts, combat dance does not restrict participants within an enclosed drum circle.

[edit] Physical Training

Training and preparation for regular combat dance requires creativity, focus and desire. All physical body types are able to engage in basic moves initially while regular daily practice and study can increase the beginner skillset remarkably. Additional training techniques that may assist those seeking to master combat dance can include: yoga, djembe, Eskrima, cirque and kickboxing.
