ɜThis is a montage image that I created for the Cold War article on Wikipedia. It is comprised of several government, public domain images found throughout the Wikipedia site and other free license sources.
Notes on the pictures used in the montage:
- Top: United States President John F. Kennedy and Soviet General Secretary Nikita Khrushchev meet in a 1961 summit held in Vienna, Austria. This image was lifted from the Images of American Political History Collection, an archive of public domain images for free use (see terms of use).
- Left Upper: Sputnik 1 is launched into orbit (triggering the Space Race).
- Left Lower: American soldiers land in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.
- Right Upper: East German border guards at the Berlin Wall.
- Right Lower: The first Soviet nuclear weapon Joe 1 is tested.
