[edit] Principals

Principals: Rabbi Elbaz, Judaic Studies; Patty Sapp, Lower School; Marcia Hershfield, Upper School

Rabbi Herbert Cohen, the previous head, left in 2003 to lead a Jewish school in Denver. His duties have been split among the three administrators, some of whom are approaching retirement. [3] So, for the upcoming year, CTA has found a new headmaster, by the name of Rabbi Tzvi Kahn.

[edit] Mission Statement

The mission of the Columbus Torah Academy is to develop our students into educated, contributing, active, aware members of contemporary American and Jewish societies. To accomplish this mission, CTA is dedicated to

  • Provide a broad based, high quality, secular education, designed to impart the critical educational and learning skills that are necessary to meet the students' future educational and/or vocational challenges. A college-preparatory curriculum is offered with Learning Center support.
  • Provide a strong, comprehensive Jewish education, within a modern Orthodox Zionist framework, to inspire learning, living and growing in Judaism as a life-long commitment. Our goals are for our students to make Torah values the center of their lives and to instill in them an attachment to and a sense of responsibility for the State of Israel and the Jewish people.
  • Provide an atmosphere within the school that is respectful of and sensitive to the diversity that exists within the community and our parent body, through the modeling and teaching of derech eretz (proper respect) and middot (moral behavior).
  • Provide every Jewish child in the central Ohio area with the opportunity of a CTA education, within the limits of our educational and financial resources.[4]

[edit] Classes

Columbus Torah Academy runs a double curriculum. Half of the day is English studies and half of the day is Hebrew studies. There are different levels of classes, and, based on grade level and previous experiences, students are sorted into one of these classes.

[edit] Preparing You for College

College counseling at CTA starts during the sophomore and junior years. Students begin meeting with the guidance counselor to begin making the "most important decision the student has ever made in his/her life up to that point."

[edit] Campus Layout

The CTA campus is situated on a 42-acre tract with modern, fully air-conditioned facilities. Prayer services are held twice daily. The facility includes 32 classrooms, three science labs, two gymnasiums, two computer labs, one writing lab, arts loft and two libraries. Additionally, the campus contains outdoor soccer and ball fields, tennis courts and playground equiptment. [5]
