The Columbus Lions are a charter member of the World Indoor Football League that will begin play in 2007. The team will play their home games at the Columbus Civic Center.

This team should not be confused with the Chattahoochee Valley Vipers, the former indoor team from Columbus, nor the Columbus Wardogs, who played four seasons in Columbus in the arenafootball2 league.

The Lions' inaugural game on February 26, 2007 was marred by tragedy when opposing defensive back Javon Camon of the Daytona Beach Thunder was killed after a hard but clean hit by Columbus receiver Cedric Ware during the fourth quarter.[1][2]
