The Columbia Daily Tribune, commonly referred to as the Columbia Tribune or the Tribune is one of two city-wide newspapers in Columbia, Missouri. Although written to serve the Columbia metro area it is the most widely read newspaper in Mid-Missouri.
[edit] History
""A good daily paper is a sure sign that a town is growing and is the best means of promoting a good healthy growth. We will do our best to make the Tribune everything that it should be. It may fall short of our ambitions and the expectations of others, but with the cooperation of the people and our own earnest efforts we hope to bring it to an honorable place among the best dailies of the state."" —C.M. Strong on The Tribune |
The Tribune was founded in 1901 as the first daily newspaper in Columbia. Before 1901 news was offered by three weekly Missouri Intelligencer, The Columbia Patriot and The Columbia Statesman. In 1905 the Waters/Watson family bought the newspaper and continue to operate it to this day.
