Colton Orr (born March 3, 1982 as Colton Douglas Orr) is a North American ice hockey player. He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and is of no relation to Hall of Fame defenseman Bobby Orr. Orr was not drafted by an NHL team and signed as a free agent with the Boston Bruins. He now plays for the New York Rangers, as he was claimed on waivers by them in November 2005.
On December 31, 2006 Orr was suspended 5 games by the NHL for a cross check to the face of Washington Capitals' superstar Alexander Ovechkin, coming in the 3rd period of a December 30th game at Madison Square Garden in New York. Ovechkin was uninjured, but NHL Senior Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations Colin Campbell regarded Orr's infraction as "reckless". Orr is also credited for the blow that knocked out Flyers forward Todd Fedoruk during a fight, after the fight league director Colin Campbell said it was time for the league to look at fighting. [1]
Orr scored his first career NHL goal in a February 9, 2007 game against the Tampa Bay Lightning's Johan Holmqvist.
