Colony Palms Hotel

The Colony Palms Hotel in Palm Springs, California, was originally referred to as The Colonial House by reputed mobster Al Wertheimer. The hotel opened in 1935, featuring a good night’s rest as well as a legendary speakeasy and brothel. The hotel was renamed The Howard Manor in 1951 when Robert and Andrea Leeds Howard (Robert was the son of Charles S. Howard took possession[1]. For the next 25 years the hotel was a haven for young Hollywood in Palm Springs.

In 1979, it became a health spa called The Palms.

The hotel will reopen soon as the Colony Palms Hotel. The original hotel had a mural on the wall that was Botticelli-esque in nature, with some frolicking nudes. The new owner plans to preserve the original mural from 1935 [2].
