Colonel Arthur Plugge

Colonel Arthur Plugge was born in Hull, England, on 17 February 1877 and died in Taupiri, New Zealand on 1 July 1934.
In 1899 Colonel Plugge left England for New Zealand as head of the Dilworth Ulster Institute Auckland N.Z. Plugge was Colonel in the 1st N.Z. Forces 1914 – 1918 and took part in the battle at the Dardanelles. Plugge was Director General of the Physical Training N.Z. Expeditionary Force. Plugge's Plateau Cemetery at Anzac was named after him since he had his headquarters there. (See (List of war cemeteries and memorials on the Gallipoli Peninsula)) Colonel Plugge was married to Millicent Aicken Graves (Auckland, 5 April 1883). They had four children.
