In Mega Man Battle Network 5, Colonel.EXE, a NetNavi, and his operator Baryl (Barrel), a Netopian ("Ameropean") official battler, were introduced as a duo that form an elite team to stop Nebula.

In MegaMan Battle Network 5, Colonel is a powerful navi that fights for good with his operator Baryl. Together they form the head of the "Anti-Nebula Corps" or "Team Colonel". Similar to his X series counterpart, Colonel is a righteous and respectable figure. He fights to liberate all territories occupied by the "Dark Chip Syndicate", Nebula. However, in MegaMan Battle Network 6, he is working for WWW because Dr. Wily had raised Baryl and created Colonel for him. His other creation, Iris, was the form of Colonel's former kindness that Dr. Wily took away after Baryl's father died in a war. Baryl and Colonel eventually turn on Wily after being affected by Lan's (Netto's) words. When Wily successfully placed Cybeasts Falzar and Gregar in CopyBots, Iris and Colonel merged together and deleted the spirit of the Cybeast MegaMan had within him, at the cost of their own life. The reformed Dr. Wily eventually created two Net Reinforcement Programs named after them. Colonel is an active attack system that automatically finds and deletes viruses and criminals on the Net. The other, Iris is a Net Recovery system that searches for any damage and repairs it. Because of these two programs, the Net is said to have grown in leaps and bounds, which the now adult Lan Hikari works hard to maintain and protect.
