From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Collins Living Learning Center (CLLLC)is one of 11 residence halls at Indiana University Bloomington. As a residence hall, it is unique in that it is a partnership between the Residential Programs and Services part of IU and the College of Arts and Sciences division of Indiana University. Freshman and Sophomore residents of Collins are required to take a Q class and one of many Collins courses offered each semester.
Residents in Collins are very involved in their community and active in student government, student groups and other organizations.
[edit] "Home is Where the Gnome Is"
The Collins mascot is the gnome. In the lobby of the Edmonson, there are three stained glass windows depicting male gnomes. Many t-shirts and Collins publications feature the gnome prominently.
Author Meg Cabot, a Collins alum, has referred to it as "the most progressive dorm in the United States."
[edit] Collins Staff
Collins has the best Resident Assistant staff on the IU campus. In the Spring of 2006, GLACUHO named Collins the best community because of the staff's response to a critical incident. The staff also does dynamic programming about current and interesting topics. Some examples include Shanty Town (where residents spent the night in cardboard boxes outside), Gender in Pornography, Ask Anything (to address cultural stereotypes) and a party hop (emphasizing alcohol safety).
Collins also has a professional staff and the Living Learning Center side also has an excellent crew.
