Collendina, Victoria

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Collendina is a small section of Ocean Grove which is located in Victoria, Australia.

[edit] History

When the town Ocean Grove was born it was a Methodist town, and it was the ruling of the methodist's that it would remain a "dry town". Because the new town was free of alcohol the town or rather area of Collendina was formed. This area was free of the prohibition and the Collendina pub was formed on the land. Soon around the pub houses were built, along with the still running Collendina Caravan Park. Soon the two towns grew into each other to form one town. Probably because of its alcohol-related origins, Collendina has been regarded as the poorer part of town by most folk. The prohibition was officially lifted in Ocean Grove in 2006, althrough there was many cafes and restaurants which sold alcohol beforehand.
