[edit] Faculties & Departments
CEG offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral study programs in many fields of engineering, through its various departments, split under the following six faculties.
- Civil Engineering Engineering
The Department of Civil Engineering of Anna University is the oldest in the Country. It dates back to May 17, 1794, when the East India Company established a Survey School to train military personnel and surveyors. This has grown to a Civil Engineering School in 1858 and later a Civil Engineering College in 1859.
Over the years with the help of dedicated group of people, it expanded to the present level as one of a highly reputed group of Civil Engineering Departments in the country. Presently the Department of Civil Engineering has six well established disciplines - Structures, Water Resources, Soil Mechanics, Environmental Engineering, Urban Engineering and Remote Sensing. The department functions with three divisions :
1. Structural Engineering 2. Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering 3. Division of Urban Systems and Development
and three advanced centres : 1. Centre for Water Resources 2. Centre for Environmental Studies 3. Institute for Remote Sensing
These centres and divisions all have fully developed laboratories with classroom facilities and are renowned for their academic and research achievements at national and international levels. The Department of Civil Engineering has been approved for a very long time as a centre for the Quality Improvement Programme at Masters and Doctoral levels.

[edit] Technical & Cultural Symposia
The students of CEG have come together to conduct a National level technical festival which is multi-disciplinary in dimension: Kurukshetra - the Battle of Brains, from 2007.
Every year in February, CEG plays host to Techofes, an eagerly anticipated and keenly contested five-day inter-collegiate cultural festival.
During the months of January and March, various departments of the college conduct individual technical symposia. Notable among these are
- Pinnacle, organised by the Department of Mechanical Engineering,
- Surang, , organised by the Department of Mining Engineering,
- Manusys, organised by the Department of Manufacturing Engineering,
- INDCON, organised by the Department of Industrial Engineering,
- aBaCUS, conducted by the Department of Computer Science,
- Vision, conducted by the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering,
- Waves, of the School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and
- Civilisation, by the Civil Engineering Department
- Geohorizon by GeoInformatic engineers under civil engineering
- Imprint conducted by Department of Printing Technology
Some of the technical symposia are Civilization and Colloquium organised by the Department of Mathematics. Civilization of annauniversity attracts the civilengineers from all over India. The Highlight of this is the innovative competition called Rotortreasure survey which tests the surveying capabilities of students.
In other activities also, CEG has earned a reputation worthy of emulation. Teams from CEG often excel in sports and extra curricular activities with participation in national contests like University Challenge
Colloquium is the annual technical symposium conducted by the Department of Mathematics of the college. It aims to collect and disseminate the latest trends in the field of Mathematics through a variety of ways including paper presentations and technical talks by eminent Indian mathematicians and research scholars.
The highlight of the Colloquium is the Mathematics Quiz, the winner of which is awarded the prestigious Ramanujan Rolling Shield, instituted in the name of the famous Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. In recent years, the shield has stayed with teams from the College of Engineering, Guindy itself. Most notably, a team comprising of Makesh Pravin and Vijay Krishna, both students of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, won the Rolling Shield for three years in succession.
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering conducts its symposium called abacus. Abacus 2k6 was attended by more than 1000 students. It was sponsored by big shots in the software Industry like Microsoft, Amazon, Trilogy, Juno Online, D.E. Shaw, CTS, TCS, etc. The online programming contest conducted during abacus 2k6 with the sponsorship of Amazon was a huge success inviting participants from all over the world. The highlight of the Abacus is the Technoczar in which the winners of the other events are shortlisted and forced through rigorous procedures to identified the TechnoCzar of the Abacus. The event has always been a laugh-riot for the audience.
