Colleen Smart (née Hickie) is a fictional character in the Australian soap opera Home and Away. The character, played by Lyn Collingwood, began as a recurring character who served as comic relief from 1988 to 1989 and again in 1997, becoming a regular in 1999.
[edit] Character
Born in the 1940s, Colleen is the town's source of gossip, known as a "sticky beak" who is quick to judge, but she also has a heart of gold. Her main claim to fame was winning the 'Miss Groper Pageant', which she regularly boasts about and which she re-introduced to Summer Bay in early 2005.
Colleen is chronically domineering and bossy and is not above insulting those she cares about, particularly her beloved son Lance (Peter Vroom), whom she dotes on. She currently works in the Diner with Leah Patterson-Baker (Ada Nicodemou) and her favourite pastime is constantly trying to weasel her way into everyone else's business, so that she can be the source of information on everything that happens in Summer Bay.
With her children living away, Colleen has formed a close bond with Leah and Sally (Kate Ritchie). Colleen also acts as a grandmother towards Leah’s son V.J. (Cooper Scott) and Sally’s daughter Pippa.
