[edit] Character
Colleen is the daughter of Brad Carlton (Don Diamont) and Traci Abbott Connelly (Beth Maitland). She and J.T. Hellstrom (Thad Luckinbill) broke up in January when he found out that she cheated on him with Adrian Korbel.
When Colleen returned to Genoa City as a rebellious young teen in 2001, she began to develop a marijuana habit. She was given a wake-up call when it almost cost the life of her half-sister, Abby (Darcy Rose Byrnes), who almost choked on a button when Colleen went out to smoke while she was supposed to be babysitting.
Colleen soon made friends with local girls Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) and Sierra Hoffman (Asia Ray Smith), and began a romance with J.T. Hellstrom. At first, Colleen's family was wary of J.T. as he had a bad track record with women, but they eventually accepted the relationship.
In 2004, Colleen left Genoa City for New York because she felt she was getting in the way of J.T.'s budding music career. She returned in early 2006 expecting to reunite with J.T., but he had moved on with Mackenzie Browning (Rachel Kimsey). She also was shocked to learn that Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart), who had tried to kill her and statutorily raped Lily in 2003, had now been accepted by most of the GC community, Lily included. To this day, Colleen has not been able to forgive Kevin, and in a recent scene, she reminded him that if it was up to her, he would be the prime suspect in a murder investigation as he was crazy.
Recently, Mac left town and Colleen and J.T. reconciled. Colleen, like most of the Abbott family, is reeling from the loss of John Abbott (Jerry Douglas), who had recently died of a massive stroke. His death, along with the discovery of her father and grandmother's Jewish faith, has led Colleen to more closely examine her own mixed heritage. She now celebrates the Jewish holidays.
Colleen is working as a research assistant to her art history professor, medievalist Adrian Korbel (Eyal Podell), and this stormy working relationship has led to several minor indiscretions; Korbel has fed the sexual tension between the two, preying on the weaknesses in her relationship with J.T., and is a bit too interested in Colleen's grandmother Rebecca (Lorna Raver) for the comfort of the Carlton/Kaplan clan.
Colleen and Professor break up on Valentine's Day promising to forego any further liasons after Valentine's Day at midnight. After making love, Colleen is getting a glass of water. She opens Adrian's pantry and several things falls out: Carmen Mesta's Wisconsin license along with some pink hair extensions and Jana's necklace. Running out of the house in a panic, she is accosted by a hooded man who knocks her out and takes her to a room where Jana is being held hostage. Jana tells her that Adrian is a murderer as she had originally theorized. Colleen then finds out that there is an acomplice helping Adrian. Jana questions Colleen about the reliquary after the accomplice leaves her alone with Colleen. Colleen give Jana all the information including how the inscription was decoded to reveal that it was a biblical quote and Adrian's role in the translation of the code. As soon as the henchman/kidnapper comes in, Jana offers to give up the goods on the reliquary in exchange for her freedom. The accomplice drags Jana out of the room to the frustration of Colleen who is left alone begging for Jana not to say anything about the reliquary.
Meanwhile, JT is going all over town (Crimson Lights and Indigo, etc.) looking for Colleen and breaks into Korbel's apartment to see if Korbel is to blame for her disapperance, as Colleen's car is still in the parking lot. After conducting a search which is ultimately interrupted by Korbel, JT finds Colleen's earing.
After Jana brings an initially relieved Kevin into the room, Colleen found out that Jana staged the entire kidnapping and her own murder to get the inscription. Jana left, setting the building on fire to make it appear Kevin reprised his original attempt to kill Colleen. Jana also left Kevin's wallet with Carmen's license under Colleen's car. Just as both Colleen and Kevin were succumbing to the smoke, JT and Korbel find their room through GPS tracking and save both. Colleen was in the intensive care unit clinging to life on a respirator. Kevin becomes the prime suspect and was arrested immediately after geting his release papers from the hospital.
