Colin Wells is the fictional Technical Officer at MI5, in BBC spy-fi drama Spooks. This character was played by Rory MacGregor from 2002 until he left in 2006.
Colin Wells started out in Series 1, Episode 2 as a technician with occasional appearances. As with all the cast, his appearances became more frequent, and his role more instrumental in building on-screen chemistry within the team. Most notably, he was close to fellow "technician" Malcolm. We never saw his private life, and nothing about it was inferred in any episodes, although Malcolm revealed just after his execution that his favourite book was The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Memorable moments from Colin include Series 4, Episode 9 when Juliet Shaw calls him "Kevin". Also Series 5, Episode 1, when one of his executioners asks him:
- Executioner
- Who's Malcolm, your boyfriend?
- Colin
- No!
- Executioner
- So it's not true you have to be gay to join MI5 then?
- Colin
- No!
- Executioner
- But are you gay Colin?
Colin will probably be best remembered for his technical jargon, but his final speech to his executioners should be remembered as well:
- Colin
- I may be smaller and weaker than you. But you can hurt me, but you won't humiliate me!
Colin was hanged from a tree in Series 5, Episode 1.
