Colin Salmon (1962) is an English actor best known for playing the fictional character Charles Robinson in three James Bond films. He is highly noted for his distinguishable and strong voice and his height (standing at 6'4"). Salmon was born in Luton, Bedfordshire, England. He attended Putteridge and Ashcroft High School, the former being the same school as Bond score composer David Arnold.

Salmon was rumored as a possible contender to replace Pierce Brosnan as James Bond and has performed as Agent 007 for actress screen tests prior to filming the 2002 Bond film Die Another Day. Brosnan even suggested Salmon as his preferred successor in his commentary on the DVD of Die Another Day. Rumours surrounding Salmon intensified after Ladbrokes stopped taking bets on the identity of the new James Bond after receiving six £500 bets on Salmon, which they claim came out of the blue and could have been placed by people with inside knowledge [1]. If Salmon had been chosen, he would have been the first black actor to play the role — a half Scottish, half Swiss Caucasian male according to author Ian Fleming.

Recently Colin has appeared as David Tyrel in the Sky One UK television series Hex and as Dr. Rowan Dunlop in Series 8 of ITV UK Television series Bad Girls. He is currently recording the role of Kerr Avon in the new audio series of Blake's 7.

Colin is also a supporter of Luton Town F.C.

He also played himself in the sixth episode of the BBC Three comedy, Little Miss Jocelyn.

[edit] Trivia

  • In at least two films, he is depicted as dying in the same fashion: sliced into bits. In Resident Evil, he is killed by a laser-gridded hallway, controlled by The Red Queen. He makes several attempts to dodge the beams, but is defeated by a tight grid that crosses the whole hallway. In Alien Vs Predator, he is killed by a Predator Netgun, which has the same effect.
