Colin Mawby

Colin Mawby (b. 1936) is an English organist, choral conductor and composer.
Mawby received his earliest musical education at Westminster Cathedral choir school, where he acted as assistant to George Malcolm at the organ from the age of 12. He subsequently studied at the Royal College of Music and became Master of the Music at Westminster Cathedral in 1961. Whilst there he conducted the first performance of the early music vocal ensemble Pro Cantione Antiqua. In 1976 he moved to Dublin to become choral director at Radio Telefis Eireann, later also becoming artistic director of the National Chamber Choir of Ireland. He retired to East Anglia in 2001 but has now returned to County Dublin in Ireland.
Mawby is a prolific composer of music for the English Catholic liturgy; his best known compositions are an Ave verum corpus for choir and a setting of Psalm 23 which won fame in the recording by Charlotte Church. A Te Deum for soprano solo, chorus, organ and brass ensemble was premiered in Cambridge in 2006 to mark his 70th birthday.
