Coláiste Feirste

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Coláiste Feirste is the largest second level Irish medium school in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Previously known as Méanscoil Feirste, the gaelscoil is located in the west of the city. The school is seen as a remarkable success story. Having been founded in 1990 with just nine pupils in makeshift rooms, today it has around 600 pupils and a new state of the art facility on Belfast's Falls Road.

There are also plans underway to turn the nearby Beechmount Leisure Centre into the school's sports complex. It will be shared with St. Mary's University College, which is situated a short walk away on the Falls Road. The Leisure Centre was due to be closed by Belfast City Council, but the intervention of Coláiste Feirste appears to have saved it from demolition.
