Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Jackson is a big, quiet guy with a past. He's not a social person and doesn't care to become one. There were rumors spread around Hartwell School that he came from Juvenile Hall and moved in with a foster family.

The truth is, he was separated from his real mother and was taken in to a foster family. When he found out he was going to go on the EcoAdventure, he went back to his old neighborhood and bragged about finally doing something worthwhile. His old "friends" said that he had changed, that he suddenly thought he was better than them. One kid stood up for him. His old friends got into a fight with the kid, and he tried to break it up. A kid pulled a knife on the kid who had stood up for him. He was blamed for what happened, because "He was there, he wasn't supposed to be, and someone got hurt"

He was later placed into Hartwell, where he saw the students there as spoiled rich kids who thought they were better than others. He kept to himself, with the street-type of persona, which made practically everyone afraid of him.

He went on the Micronesia EcoAdventure Tour with nine other students. During their plane trip there, the plane had got struck down by lightning and landed on a deserted island. While on the island, Jackson still kept to himself, still being feared by the students. However, he was liked by Lex Marin, because he Got everyone to listen to him, and by Melissa Wu, to help her help Nathan McHugh get the fire started.

Jackson was elected leader of the group, even though he was reluctant to. Because of Melissa's words of wisdom, Jackson decided to give leadership a shot.

Jackson tried to help out by catching fish. He has been receiving notes and hints from one of the survivors in the camp, signing as "A Friend", on how to catch fish when all of his trying has failed. But, the last one worked out when he brought in a handful of fish. When he thought it was Lex who sent the notes, it turned out it was Taylor Hagan.

Jackson and Lex had went in search of Melissa after she was humiliated when Taylor broadcast her video diary over the radio. They managed to save her and Taylor when they were caught on a ledge. Jackson told her that they should remain platonic while on the island.

Jackson had gotten into an argument with Nathan and Daley. When it was Lex's birthday, which none of the others remembered including Daley, he tried to make a raft for his sign to surprise him. He was interrupted by Daley and Nathan by their snide comments, and told them to leave. He later overhears how Nathan is talking about him of how he was different from the rest. Lex makes an obstacle course called "Mazeathon", to have some fun. When Jackson and his team wins, he gets Daley and Nathan to help him build the raft in time. This way, they mend the tension between them.

Jackson had left the group after Eric had exposed him for having a possibly dangerous secret on his video diary. It seemed that Lex had discovered what was on Jackson's tape and he tried to hide it from Eric so he could not exploit it like he did Melissa's to cover for Jackson. He decided to travel across the island on his own, to find the others, but was persuaded by Melissa and, surprisingly, Eric to come back.

Jackson's main reason for coming back to the campsite was Melissa.

Jackson had decided to hand over leadership to Daley.

He and Taylor had started to get closer, as they became friends when he comforted her as Daley became hard on her. He admitted to Taylor that he played the guitar.

Jackson was skeptical toward the idea of Chilloween. For his present to the group, Jackson played the song he made up to the group, with Taylor's influence.

Jackson contracted a sickness when he drank unsafe drinking water, but he was healed when he took medication.

Jackson seems to have a crush on Taylor, but has told Melissa that he likes her.

He joined Eric and Abby on their quest to find the others.

Spoilers end here.
