Matthew Cody Carlson (born November 5, 1963 in Dallas, Texas), was a former American professional football player who was selected by the Houston Oilers in the 3rd round of the 1987 NFL Draft. A 6'3", 203 lbs. quarterback from Baylor University, Carlson played in 7 NFL seasons and his entire career with the Oilers from 1988-1994. He began his career as a backup to Warren Moon, and his only productive season was during the 1992 season due to Moon getting injured. After Moon departed after the 1993 season, Carlson soon found himself as the third-stringer behind quarterbacks Billy Joe Tolliver and Bucky Richardson. He retired after the 1994 season.
