Cobeña

Cobeña is a small town of c.4000 people (estimate of 2004), with an average of 179 people per kilometre. It is located approximately 27km north-east of Madrid the capital of Spain. Set at 696 metres above sea-level, Cobeña is set between three hills. The ground is made of layers of clay and sand, which allow water to flow in subterranean rivers to join the Jarama river. It is set on just over 21km² of land, surrounded by vast kilometres of crop fields, in all directions. The nearest town to Cobeña, is Algete, just 3km away.
The population is made up mostly of young couples (in between 30 and 45 years of age), with two or three children.

Some of Cobeña's structures are dated from the times when Spain was part of the Roman Empire. It was not until the 9th century, however, that the Arab invaders found it.
