"Coal Miner's Daughter" is an autobiographical 1969 country music song written and performed by Loretta Lynn. It tells the story of her life growing up "in a cabin on a hill in Butcher Hollow", while her father worked all night in the Van Lear Coal Mine. The single was recorded in 1969 and released by Decca Records in 1970, charting that year. On December 19, 1970 the song had reached number one on the Billboard magazine Country Singles music chart in the U.S.
