From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Coal Bowl Classic is a national invitational male/female high school basketball tournament held at Breton Education Centre in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada. A major facilitating factor is that all team members will be housed within one wing of the school. Breton Education Centre ia a combined junior-senior high school which opened in 1970. Interestingly, the host Breton Education Centre Bears have yet to win the tournament championship.
The tournament takes its name from the primary industry of New Waterford, coal mining, although all coal mines on Cape Breton are now all closed. With the help of local businesses, live streaming video is available on the internet, allowing fans to view the Coal Bowl even if they are unable to attend in person.
