[edit] Coaching Youth Basketball
The proper development of young basketball players is the most critical element in the success of basketball as a sport. Youth coaches must focus first on building a love and passion for the game in their players. If kids don't have fun playing the game, chances are they will end up not playing the game any more. This love for the game can and should be taught through the teaching of the basic fundamentals of basketball. Teaching basic dribbling, passing, shooting, and man to man defensive skills provides numerous opportunities for the kids to enjoy the sport in an environment that they can also learn. See the Fundamentals sections below for more information on ways to teach these skills.
